In this beautiful and hectic Spring/Summer 2019 season, we are pleased to witness the second collaboration between American giant Converse and Harlem rapper A$AP Nast.
After having explored the 50s, the rapper’s favorite period with two models and a distinctive T-shirt, this year we find a capsule with more content and in a more homogeneous spirit that explores the 30s this time. The label and the rapper sign a collaboration breathing the great outdoors, centered on a model, the Jack Purcell, designed in 1935 exclusively for badminton.
After being relaunched in the 60s for a much more lifestyle oriented use, it’s A$AP Nast’s turn to tackle this model. A choice that was obvious to the rapper who says “The silhouette is functional, durable. It’s intriguing. I wanted to create a style that could be worn every day.
Surrounded by designers Julian Guzman and Matt Sleep, Nast once again offers us a successful collaboration that Julian does not fail to praise. His artistic motivations are explained by the A$AP Mob’s dedication to the Chuck Taylor, a model he proudly wore in the streets of Harlem as a child. So Nast wanted to honor those memories and strengths and show his appreciation for the outdoors and “utility.”
We find two Jack Purcell signed Converse x A$AP Nast, in two different colors ranging from orange to anise green. Both adorned with lacing and a thick black sole that contrast the whole. Nast gives a new breath to the pair, a cultural revival, driven by the influence and lifestyle of the Harlem rapper.
