New Balance was founded in Boston at the beginning of the 20th century by orthopedist William R. Riley, with the ambition of providing a suitable insole for people with foot pain. Remaining in the shadows until the dawn of the 21st century, the brand emerged with a range of quality footwear and apparel.
From footwear to clothing, quality comes first
In 1960, New Balance launched the world's first functional running shoe, with a sole and technology specifically adapted to this discipline. True to its values, the brand is still committed to local production, with the majority of its products made in the UK and the USA. The two famous subsidiaries, “Made in UK” and “Made in US”, are dedicated exclusively to American and British production. As early as the 70s, New Balance began developing clothing and textile collections using quality materials such as nylon, mesh and GORE-TEX.
Strategic collaborations
Always an accessory to running, the brand has never failed to diversify into fashion. Partnerships with industry giants have helped propel the brand to the forefront. We recall the famous 1906L loafer-runner, perfectly combining the two worlds, presented at the Junya Watanabe FW24 show. Or streetwear inspirations in association with the famous Aimé Leon Dore fashion label. New Balance is constantly renewing itself, and brilliantly plays on several levels, moving from running to haute-couture with impressive ease.
R&D at New Balance
While New Balance is moving ever closer to a fashion artistic direction, it is not abandoning sport. And that means research and development. By investing in research, the brand positions itself as a player in the sports technology market, and innovates by bringing advanced technologies to the market, such as REVlite foam or the ENCAP sole.
By offering premium-quality products to its customers, New Balance ensures performance for sportsmen and women, and style for fashion lovers.
