The Wallabee silhouette originated in Kilkenny, Ireland, where it was inspired by the "Grashopper" lace-up shoe from German shoe brand Sioux. Distinguished by its moccasin-like appearance, crepe sole and lacing system, this men's shoe was initially considered too radical for the British market. At the time, footwear was mainly pointed or rounded, like Brogues and Derbys. Against all odds, the Wallabee, with its singular design, was an almost immediate success in the late 60s in North America, where the spirit of freedom was predominant.

The distinctive Wallabee design, created with simplicity embodied by the use of two pieces of suede and a tubular construction method, won over rebellious spirits and counter-culture icons, propelling the shoe into the ranks of a must-have trend. Its moccasin-like design and crepe sole offered unrivalled flexibility and comfort. The crepe sole, acting as a natural shock absorber, added a touch of dynamism and durability. Crafted from premium suede from the family-owned Charles F. Stead tannery, the Wallabee has become a symbol of sneaker and streetwear culture since 1968, adopted by various stylistic tribes.
