History of Eastpack

When you hear the name Eastpak, you immediately think of their colorful backpacks, and that’s normal. It is an American label specialized in bags and travel equipment.

It is in 1952 that creator Monte Goldman will create Eastern Canvas Products USA in order to create bags and safety equipment for the American army. It is only later that the firm will focus on models of bags and backpacks intended entirely for consumers.

The label stood out because it was the first to make brightly colored bags and bags with prints. Keeping its reputation for quality and durability, the label’s bag has become an integral piece of urban style.

The label will have many collaborations with some brands such as Samsoe Samsoe, Marvel, ST Sugarbush, Nicopanda, Kenzo, Jacquemus, … However, the collaboration that will interest us is the Eastpak X AMI collaboration through the most iconic model of the label, the Padded Pak’r backpack: The AMI Padded. We also find the AMI TOPLOAD and a fanny pack that were created thanks to this capsule.

To develop and go even further in the design of their products, the American label has established the eastpak artist studio. It is a concept that highlights a selection of designers creating an original model each. The last eastpak artist studio took place in 2016 and with eleven designers such as Christopher Raeburn, Giambattista Valli, Wanda Nylon, Jacquemus, Kenzo, Inan…

Designers Against Aids

All sales made through these designers go to the charity Designers Against Aids. Aids is an international project that raises awareness about AIDS/HIV.

The collab X AMI PARIS

In addition to AMI sweatshirts, pants and tee shirts, the AMI Paris brand also offers exclusive products such as Eastpak, which was launched as part of the AMI FW17 collection. This fall/winter collection is the perfect balance between the utilitarian and qualitative approach of the American label and the design of the French label.

Alexandre MAttiussi brought his designer touch to three models:

The flagship piece of the collaboration is the famous Padded Pak’r backpack which takes the concept of the high-end backpack with the emblematic details of the American label.

For an occasion requiring a little more space, the AMI Topload will be your best friend. With its military inspiration, this bag keeps its urban look while bringing a great utility aspect.

Finally, we find in this last piece Alexandre Mattiussi’s love for exaggerated proportions. Indeed, this fanny pack contains a spacious compartment with many zippered pockets whether: front, back or inside.

These three pieces take up the codes of the utilitarian aspect of the American label while taking up the urban and chic side of the Parisian label. No doubt about the success of this capsule.

The Parisian label has been able to democratize over time to now also offer its own leather goods. Whether in the summer or winter collections, the label is always in the neutral optics. It offers a leather goods for women but also for men.

There are several items such as the Small Box Bag, Mini Box Bag, Baguette Box, Mini Accordion Bag and the Weekender Bag.
